Mubadala Aerospace is progressing toward the merger of its two MRO subsidiaries in Zurich and Abu Dhabi, says Mubadala Aerospace senior business development manager Abdulla Shadid. “We continue to work on [the merger of SR Technics and Abu Dhabi Aircraft Technologies]," Shadid says. "Airlines are being approached with a Mubadala network-type offering." The ultimate objective, he says, is to unify the companies under a global brand. “Behind the scenes, a lot of that work has gone into place.”

LONDON—The 230 airline members of the International Air Transport Association (IATA) that operate Western-built jets are significantly safer than non-IATA carriers, according to figures recently released by the association. In 2010, it recorded 26 fatal airline accidents that resulted in the deaths of 817 passengers and crew, compared to 28 accidents causing 749 deaths in 2009.

New African operator Senegal Airlines also paired with AJ Walter on a five-year, power-by-the-hour contract for its first two Airbus 319 aircraft.

Aeronautical Engineers Inc. (AEI) is converting a Boeing 727-200 to a 12-pallet freighter configuration for an unidentified customer. Commercial Jet Inc. in Miami is doing the conversion. AEI also received approval from the Commonwealth of Independent States for its Boeing 737-300SF and 737-400SF conversions.
Boeing Shanghai Aviation Services Co. will do heavy checks on S7 Airlines’ Boeing 767s for two years and A checks on World Airways’ Boeing 747-400s for an undisclosed term.
Turkish Technik will provide 15 C checks, seven redelivery checks, seven landing gear overhauls and painting for 10 aircraft in the Pegasus and IzAir fleets. Additionally, it carried out a C check on a Spanair Airbus A320 and two base maintenance C checks on Tailwind Airlines Boeing 737-400s in January, and a C check on a Kolavia Airlines Airbus A320-232 in February.
