Bombardier Customer Services' MRO facilities in Belfast and Dallas have been accredited with the AS9100 Revision A quality standard. The latest revision is process driven and focuses on risk assessment and mitigation. Registrants complete a two-stage audit process and the Belfast and Dallas MRO facilities have completed the first stage of audits with no non-compliance issues.
Bombardier announced at MRO Asia that it has extended its repair capability for the Trent 700 inlet cowl to Hong Kong Aircraft Engineering Company (HAECO), which will join Belfast and Dallas MRO facilities in offering the repair. The work will take place at HAECO's component and avionics overhaul center in Tseung Kwan O, near Hong Kong International Airport. Bombardier is the OEM of the Trent 700 inlet cowl.
GE has collaborated with Michigan State University's College of Engineering to train the next generation of engineers. GE is one of the first corporate sponsors in the university's engineering theme partnership program, which will provide engineering undergraduate students with the opportunity to learn about transportation and issues related to clean technology. The partnership supports lab enhancements, student design competitions, mentorship and tutoring programs and activities like field trips to GE facilities.
Turkish Technic has signed a landing gear maintenance services agreement for five Airbus A320 family aircraft with IzAir. The work, which includes landing gear removal and installation as well as overhaul activities, will be carried out at Turkish Technic's Istanbul facility. It plans to complete the overhaul of five sets of landing gear in June 2013. IT

The 1994 Pratt & Whitney-powered Boeing 757-200 has been inducted at Flightstar Aircraft Services' facility in Jacksonville, Fla., as part of a deal for two aircraft with the option of up to four from Cargo Aircraft Management.
Delta Air Lines has outsourced airframe heavy maintenance and interior modification work to MRO companies overseas, but the carrier has found that the cost savings are getting harder to come by, and there is a lot of time and effort involved in managing relationships with MRO suppliers.
Sabena Technics has signed a three-year agreement with ULS Airlines Cargo for component repair on its fleet of three Airbus A300-B4 and three Airbus A310-300 aircraft. Both companies have collaborated on repair management for some years.
Mubadala Aerospace has formed a new senior leadership team to manage its MRO companies, Zurich-based SR Technics and Abu Dhabi Aircraft Technologies (ADAT). The United Arab Emirates-based company says it will use the new executive team to create synergies between the two MROs. However, both SR Technics and ADAT will remain separate legal entities. The new leadership appointments are Homaid Al Shemmari, chairman of the MRO network; Jeremy Chan executive vice chairman; and James Stewart group CEO.

Scandinavian Airlines System has entered into an agreement with Sunrise Asset Management to sell 13 MD82/83/87 aircraft and an additional 12 spare engines. The order is valued at about $20 million and delivery of the aircraft and engines is ongoing and will be completed in Feb. 2013. SAS is phasing out its MD-80 fleet and replacing them with Boeing 737NG and Airbus A320s.
Sherwin-Williams has announced its aerospace coatings training program for 2012, which will be held in Andover, Ks. The two-day training sessions will now include work with the SkyScapes basecoat/clearcoat paint system and focus on trends in surface pre-treatments, primer systems and topcoats. The classes are designed for all levels of paint shop personnel and conducted in a training center with electrostatic guns. The cost of the class is $229 per person, including materials, safety equipment and a training certificate.
StandardAero announced that it has appointed Jeffrey Wood as senior VP of its airlines and fleet business, which is the largest of the company's six business sectors. Kelowna is a preferred vendor for Aviation Partners Boeing winglets and undertook the task of installing the prototype winglets for the Boeing 757-300. Overall, Kelowna has installed more than 70 sets of both Aviation Partners and Quiet Wing winglets and specializes in installing winglets on both provisioned and non-provisioned aircraft.
Garuda Indonesia selected a 15-yr. rate per flight hour support package for its fleet of CFM56-7B engines, which power 63 Boeing 737-800 aircraft. The $500 million contract with CFM includes GMF Aero Asia, the carrier's maintenance company, jointly developing overhaul capability for the engine with CFM.

Emirates signed a 12-yr. OnPoint services contract with GE Aviation for maintenance and inventory support. The deal covers Boeing 777 avionics, electrical power and mechanical products on Emirates' current fleet and firm orders, for a total of 135 777s.
For months the Transportation Security Administration's final rulemaking to impose new security rules for repair stations in the U.S. and abroad has appeared imminent. TSA issued the notice of proposed rulemaking in 2009 for new security requirements, including a mandate for all repair stations to have security programs in place.
PATS Aircraft Systems will install auxiliary fuel systems on 10 Boeing 737-900ER auxiliary fuel systems on Turkish Airlines aircraft. The first two aircraft have been inducted at the PATS facility for installation of the auxiliary fuel system, which will be delivered in a two-tank aft configuration, adding 962 gallons of fuel and extending the range of the aircraft up to 450 nm.
