Edward Wright and Maureen Adams, who are astronaut candidates currently being trained by Citizens in Space—a project of the United States Rocket Academy—to fly on the Lynx reusable, suborbital spacecraft, have been commissioned as admirals in the honorary Texas Navy by Gov. Rick Perry. Citizens in Space has acquired a contract for 10 flights on the Lynx, which is under construction by XCOR Aerospace. Each flight will carry up to 10 experiments, with a citizen astronaut acting as experiment operator.
USAF Brig. Gen. Christopher P. Weggeman has been appointed deputy director for future operations at U.S. Cyber Command, Fort Meade, Md. He has been deputy director for command, control, communications and computer/cyber systems for the Joint Staff at the Pentagon. He has been succeeded by Col. Mark E. Weatherington, who has been selected for promotion to brigadier general. He has been military assistant to the deputy secretary of defense at the Pentagon. Brig. Gen. Thomas J.
Diane M. Balderson (see photo) has been appointed vice president-contracts and pricing for the Falls Church, Va.-based Northrop Grumman Corp. She will succeed Harry Q.H. Lee, who plans to retire Dec. 31. Balderson has been executive director/assistant commander for contracts of the U.S. Naval Air Systems Command.
Arno Forehand has been named general manager of the Gulfstream Aerospace Corp. component repair facility in Lincoln, Calif. He succeeds - David Pearman, who is now the general manager of the West Palm Beach, Fla., service center. Forehand was Gulfstream’s senior manager of spare part sales, repair and overhaul sales and aircraft-on-ground expediting. John Liotta has become director of product support sales for the U.S. East Coast and Tony Swift South Africa-based field service representative (FSR) in Africa.
John Holland-Kaye (see photo) has been appointed CEO of London Heathrow Airport, effective July 1. He has been development director and will succeed Colin Matthews, who will be retiring.
Carlo Logli (see photo) has been appointed CEO of Piaggio Aero , Genoa, Italy. He succeeds - Alberto Galassi (see photo), who will become chairman. Logli was chief restructuring officer and had been CEO of SuperJet International. Galassi follows Piero Ferrari , who remains a shareholder.
Despite a beneficial location equidistant from expanding growth zones in India, the Middle East and Southeast Asia, Sri Lanka has seen significant stumbles in recent years. Its April signing to the Oneworld alliance and the opening of Mattala Rajapaksa International Airport near Hambantota could be the first steps in redressing this, however.
With Embraer’s Legacy 500 approaching certification and customer deliveries set to begin this year, other manufacturers are likely bracing—or should be.
