Start-up virtual carrier Green Airlines has signed a long-term wet-lease contract with German Airways to provide two Embraer E190-100LRs to support its network expansion.

Green Airlines said one E190 is to be based at Paderborn (PAD), Germany, while the second will be operated from Groningen (GRQ) in the Netherlands.

Established in 2020, Green Airlines’ stated goal is to provide as environmentally friendly flying as possible. In addition to fuel-efficient aircraft, the airline has put the focus on digital, lean processes, and includes in its air fares compensation payments that flow into environmental projects.

“We want our chance in reviving air traffic in Germany and to make air travel more sustainable,” Green Airlines MD Stefan Auwetter said.

According to its website, Green Airlines will this summer operate scheduled services from PAD to the North German island Sylt (GWT). The carrier also plans services from its Karlsruhe (FKB) home base to Berlin (BER) and Hamburg (HAM), as well from PAD to Zurich (ZRH) and ZRH-GWT services. Green is evaluating whether to add Dresden (DRS), Friedrichshafen (FDH), Rostock (RLG) and Vienna (VIE) to its network.

Green Airlines has an all-wet-leased fleet of ATR 42, ATR 72-500 as well as Beech 1900D aircraft. German Airways operates a fleet of five Embraer E190-100LRs, configured with 100 seats.
