ST Engineering To Gain Leap 1B Test Capability

SINGAPORE—ST Engineering is partnering with Calspan Aero Systems Engineering (ASE) to set up a Leap 1B engine test cell in Singapore, enabling the MRO provider to get more engine data in ground tests of the Boeing 737 MAX family powerplant.

The capability will be ready by the end of 2023, after attaining certification from China’s CAAC, EASA and the FAA. ST Engineering stood up its Leap 1B quick-turn services in February and is set to attain full MRO capability for the engine type by the end of 2023. 

 

ST Engineering says it will be the first MRO provider in Asia-Pacific to integrate Calspan ASE‘s latest ASE2000LX Version 8 data-acquisition control system. The company already operates engine MRO and test-cell facilities for CFM56-5B and -7B out of its facilities in Singapore and Xiamen, China. 

“The host of digital tools to be introduced by ST Engineering will enhance the efficiency and performance of aero-engine test cells through automated engine monitoring, process repeatability and data analytics,” the company says a statement.

 

Aviation Week Network’s Fleet Discovery shows there are 28 737 MAX family aircraft flying with the Leap 1B in active service within the Asia-Pacific region, and more than 1,200 on order in Asia-Pacific and China. Within the region, 100 MAX aircraft remain in storage, predominantly in China, which has yet to allow the aircraft to return to service.
