S7 Technics has unveiled a new service line for Embraer aircraft heat and sound insulation repairs at its Moscow facility.
The shop at the Russian capital’s Domodedovo Airport will specialize in maintenance and repairs of thermal acoustic insulation mats. The company says the service is the first of its kind in Russia and is targeted at operators both in the country and the wider CIS region.
It is selling the product based on maintenance cost reductions, with S7 Technics citing a local repair offering as opposed to Russia and CIS-based operators having to order and import new components from overseas providers.
“Several aircraft are scheduled for their C-checks soon, and we expect to be busy,” says Tatyana Kharitonova, interior repair shop manager for S7 Technics, who foresees high demand across the region from Embraer aircraft operators.
The set up process involved S7 Technics staff undergoing training with OEM Safran and the MRO undergoing audits to win EASA approval for the new capability. It has also invested in new equipment.
Kharitonova explains that thermal acoustic insulation mats, which are typically repaired during aircraft heavy checks, are located between fuselage skins and cabin’s interior panels, as well as inside doors, in baggage holds and beneath the floor in lavatories. "It is the latter two locations, where the mats are most vulnerable to wear and defects," she says.
S7 Technics says it plans to expand its thermal acoustic insulation capabilities to Airbus aircraft in the near future.
