SINGAPORE—Safran Nacelles has licensed ST Engineering and Air France Industries KLM Engineering & Maintenance (AFI KLM E&M) to repair and overhaul the CFM Leap 1A that powers the Airbus A320neo.
Under the agreement, airlines can turn to ST Engineering and AFI KLM E&M for nacelle repairs endorsed by engine-maker CFM International, which is a joint venture between Safran and GE Aviation. Safran says the MRO providers will offer airlines more stations that “meet their expectations of turn time, logistics costs and lead time.”
Aviation Week understands that ST Engineering’s MRO services will be made available at its facilities in China, Europe, and the U.S. With production tooling already available at ST Engineering’s MRA Systems plant in Baltimore, work at that site can commence immediately, followed by Europe and China in the second half of 2023.
The A320neo is among the fastest-growing aircraft types in the Asia-Pacific region. Aviation Week Network’s Fleet Discovery shows there are 427 A320neos equipped with Leap 1A engines in Asia-Pacific including China, and another 743 on order.
