Gallery: Inside FL Technics' Kaunas Engine Shop

Lithuanian MRO FL Technics set up a designated engine business, operating as FL Technics Engine Services, during the pandemic in late 2020 and commenced operations the following year. The company was established to help meet the surge in demand for quick-turn and hospital shop services for engines from operators. 

The engine shop, located in Kaunas, Lithuania, focuses on the narrowbody market by offering maintenance for CFM56-3, -5B and -7B engine types.

In addition to engine repairs, capabilities at the Kaunas shop also include engine borescope and external inspections, engine preservations, engine storage and engine teardown services.

In summer 2022, the engine business moved into a larger, new purpose built 37,000 ft.² facility near Kaunas Airport and FL Technics' existing logistics hub.

That same year also the company gained FAA certification to repair U.S.-registered engines. This was followed up by UK Civil Aviation Authority approval in April 2023.

FL Technics operates five engine bays in Kaunas. However, due to increasing demand for services, the company is planning to extend the number of lines to seven bays in 2024.

FL Technics employs 22 people in its engine business. To coincide with the planned capacity expansions, the MRO provider is looking to increase the engine shop’s employees by 40%.

Following the discovery of CFM56 engines containing undocumented parts linked to broker AOG Technics, FL Technics has set up a designated bay for the replacement of suspected unapproved parts. Valerij Deveikis, CEO of FL Technics Engine Services, says the company recently released a couple of CFM56 -5B engines back into service.
