Spirit Aeronautics of Columbus, Ohio, has partnered with the U.S. FBI to install the Leica Citymapper-2 airborne sensor in the bureau’s single-engine Cessna Caravan.
The Leica Citymapper-2 hybrid sensor is specifically designed for airborne urban mapping. It captures nadir (straight below) and oblique (angled) imagery and light detection and ranging data to create 3D visualizations. Operators can collect imagery at higher altitudes and speeds while delivering the ground sample distance and positional accuracy, according to manufacturer Leica Geosystems.
“When the FBI called me to ask if Spirit could assist in developing another unique sensor system installation for them, I knew our team was ready for another excellent challenge to be seized for our business,” said Spirit Aeronautics CEO Rick Ochs. “Spirit Aeronautics is built to support law enforcement agencies, and having the FBI as a long-time client proves our company’s value at the highest levels of performance.”
A veteran-owned small business with facilities in Columbus and the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex, Spirit Aeronautics is a Part 145 repair station that specializes in avionics installations and complex modifications.
