Video: Navy Unmanned Gunboat Swarm
The Office of Naval Research (ONR) disclosed last month that successful initial trials of USVs incorporating developmental sensors and software took place for two weeks in August on the James River in Virginia. Thirteen USVs—five of them autonomous and eight remotely controlled—demonstrated their ability to escort an ocean-going Navy tug on the river, interact safely with each other, and encircle a suspicious vessel.
