Korea Aviation Engineering & Maintenance Service (KAEMS) has signed an MoU with Airbus Defense and Space as it positions itself to support the Republic of Korea Air Force’s Airbus CN-235 transport aircraft maintenance and future upgrade requirements.
The MoU covers the potential transfer of MRO capabilities for both the CN-235 and C-212 turboprop airlifters.
KAEMS said the partnership with Airbus will be further strengthened in the event the air force moves ahead with a CN-235 upgrade program. The agreement could also see Sacheon, South Korea-based KAEMS providing MRO services to other Asian countries under Airbus Defense and Space Global MRO’s network portfolio.
Aviation Week’s Data Services shows that the Republic of Korea Air Force and the Korean Coast Guard have a combined 24 CN-235s and a sole C-212 in service. Outside South Korea, there are 37 CN-235 family and 51 C-212 operational within the Asia-Pacific region, mainly in Indonesia, the Philippines and Vietnam.
KAEMS is 66.4% owned by Korea Aerospace Industries and currently has depot maintenance capabilities for ROKAF and USAF’s Lockheed Martin F-16 C/Ds, ROKAF P-3CK Orion, as well as the participation of ROKAF C-130H upgrade program and Boeing E-737 AEW Peace Eye structure retrofit and integration.
