Luftwaffe Begins Refueling Anti-IS Coalition Aircraft

The Bundewehr mission to support the fight against the so-called Islamic State (IS) began on the night of Dec. 15-16 with the aerial refueling of coalition aircraft.

A Luftwaffe Airbus A310 multi-role tanker transport (MRTT) based at Incirlik air base in Turkey conducted two refuelings in a mission lasting five hours.

The A310 MRTT already refueled the first two Luftwaffe Tornado Recce aircraft on their way to Incirlik Dec. 10.
