The Pentagon on May 31 announced a new batch of aid for Ukraine full of high-end air defense systems that have been in constant demand to defend against Russian missile and drone attacks across the country.
The new $300 million package includes items that are taken from existing U.S. stocks. It includes additional munitions for Patriot air defenses, AIM-7 missiles for air defenses, Avenger air defense systems and Stinger anti-aircraft systems.
It is the first time the Pentagon has identified the AIM-7 missile, having previously announced the delivery of RIM-7 Sea Sparrow missiles that had been adapted to be fired by Ukraine’s Soviet-era tactical surface-to-air missiles.
In addition to air defenses, the new batch of aid includes additional ammunition for High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems, 155m and 105m artillery rounds, 105mm tank ammunition, precision aerial munitions, Zuni aircraft rockets, munitions for unmanned aerial systems and various small arms ammunition and other equipment.
