Brunei Orders Multiple Airbus C295 Transports

SINGAPORE—Brunei is adding to its transport aircraft fleet, ordering an unspecified number of Airbus C295MW transport aircraft.

The contract was signed on Dec. 2 in Brunei between the Southeast Asian nation and Airbus.

The Brunei Defense Ministry said the Royal Brunei Air Force (RBAF) will receive the aircraft in two batches, meaning that at least two aircraft have been ordered. The RBAF’s modest fleet has only one CN235-100, in service since 1997. The new aircraft will be used in “strategic airlift, humanitarian assistance and disaster relief, as well as Search and Rescue,” the ministry said in a statement.

Indonesia, the Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam already are operators of the C295.

In September 2022, Airbus and Indonesian aircraft manufacturer PT Dirgantara Indonesia agreed to an MOU aimed at increasing and improving the PT DI’s aerostructure manufacturing capabilities. PT DI makes C295 components including vertical stabilizers and rear fuselage, and acts as the regional final assembly line and delivery center for the transport.
