SINGAPORE—Boeing and ST Engineering have signed an agreement to explore the possibility of setting up a P-8 Poseidon services and sustainment center in Singapore.
The two companies have cited opportunities to collaborate in a variety of areas, such as systems integration, training, local parts distribution and support work on the Boeing P-8 Poseidon aircraft.
The memorandum of understanding was signed by Torbjorn Sjogren—Boeing Global Services’ vice president and general manager for government services—and ST Engineering’s Deputy President and Head of Defence Aerospace Sarbjit Singh.
Singapore’s ST Engineering already possesses a significant airframe capability to support commercial Boeing 737-800s, of which the P-8 Poseidon is a military derivative, including component repair management, pool support and maintenance, repair and overhaul sevices for the CFM56-5B/7B engine.
Boeing has a Poseidon deep maintenance facility located at the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) Base Edinburgh in South Australia to support P-8s possessed by the RAAF and Royal New Zealand Air Force (RNZAF). In the Asia-Pacific region, India and South Korea also operate P-8s.
The ST Engineering facility could potentially support the U.S. Navy’s P-8 movements in the Southeast Asia region, as well as RAAF and RNZAF aircraft when they participate in the Five Power Defense Arrangement wargames along with Singapore, Malaysia and the UK.
