Ontario, Canada-based Flying Colours has been appointed by Raisbeck Engineering as an Authorized Sales and Installation Centre for the entire King Air product line. Previous accreditations from Beechcraft and Blackhawk will allow the company to undertake King Air maintenance, refurbishments, modifications and paint work in additional to full completions all under one roof.
Cessna Aircraft Co. selected Aviation Occupant Safety's (AOS) inflatable side-facing passenger protection system as standard for the side-facing seating configuration on the new midsize Citation Latitude business jet. AOS is a joint venture between two global safety restraint industry leaders: Aircraft Belts, Inc. (ABI) and Key Safety Systems (KSS).
To “unleash the potential for development of innovative civil applications” for unmanned aircraft in Europe, a 2012 European Commission white paper stated, “the first priority is to achieve a safe integration of RPAS [Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems] into the European air system as soon as possible.”
B. Coleman Aviation will develop a new Chicago-based FBO and general aviation facility at Chicago-Gary International Airport. Features include more than 25,00 sq. ft. of terminal and hangar area, and a 12,500-sq.-ft. airside canopy large enough to provide year round shelter for a Gulfstream V or Bombardier Global Express aircraft. Completion is scheduled for spring 2014.
Europe's goal of developing a database that collects aviation occurrence reports from across the region and helps identify broad safety trends is moving closer to reality as both data quality and reporting consistency improve, the EASA reports. The European Commission's European Central Repository (ECR) has amassed nearly 665,000 aviation occurrence reports since 2005 and 2011 was the first year that all 31 EASA member states contributed reports.

A resurgence of interest in the updated Dornier 228 NG from commuter airlines has prompted RUAG Aviation to consider producing another batch of the twin-turboprop multirole aircraft. “We want to pre-sell the next batch before we go ahead with it, but then keep on selling for another batch afterward,” says RUAG. Airframe structures for the 19-seat Dornier 228 NG are made by Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd. (HAL) in India and shipped to RUAG in Oberpfaffenhofen, Germany, for outfitting and completion as airliners or special-mission aircraft.

Bristow Group has taken over search-and-rescue helicopter operations in the North of Scotland. As of July 1, Bristow crews flying Sikorsky S-92s took over from CHC flying SAR missions on behalf of the U.K. Maritime and Coast Guard Agency (MCA) under its Gap SAR contract awarded in February 2012.
Signature Flight Support Dublin Ltd. acquired the assets of gategroup's aircraft deicing business at Dublin Airport (DUB/EIDW). This announcement follows BBA Aviation's acquisition of gategroup's deicing, washing and cabin cleaning business at London Heathrow and London Gatwick, which will be operated by Aircraft Service International Group (ASIG). Deicing services will be available to both business and general aviation as well as commercial airline customers, marking Signature's entrance into commercial ground handling services at Dublin Airport.

A bill calling for the rewriting of FAR Part 23 and designed to stimulate the light aircraft industry received unanimous approval by the U.S. House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee July 10. Aviation subcommittee Chairman Frank LoBiondo (R-N.J.) said the “Small Airplane Revitalization Act” entailed “necessary, common sense reforms” which together “will improve the safety of general aviation at half the cost and help revitalize this critical industry.” The Senate's Commerce, Science and Transportation Committee is expected to approve a companion measure.
Musical chairs in Washington. In a rare 100-0 vote, the U.S. Senate in late June confirmed Anthony Foxx to become U.S. transportation secretary, succeeding Ray LaHood. The former mayor of Charlotte, N.C., assumes leadership of a Cabinet department that oversees the FAA, the Maritime Administration and numerous other related federal agencies. Two weeks later Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano announced she was resigning her Cabinet post and likely become president of the University of California system.

The U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO) in September will launch a second review of the interoperability of the Single European Sky ATM Research (Sesar) and FAA's NextGen air traffic management systems. The review comes at the request of the House aviation subcommittee. The first review, conducted in 2011, concluded that the FAA and European Union (EU) were “working collaboratively,” but that the U.S. agency must “better inform aviation stakeholders of efforts toward interoperability” and to improve the credibility of the effort.

Long before super-midsize aircraft became so popular, Dassault jumped into this market segment with the large-cabin Falcon 2000, a twin-engine, slightly shortened, 3,000-nm variant of the Falcon 900 tri-jet. First deliveries began in early 1995 and 231 units were delivered until early 2006 when the aircraft was superseded by the second-generation Falcon 2000EX.
International Standards for Business Aircraft Operations (IS-BAO) has topped 700 registered operators. IS-BAO was launched by the International Business Aviation Council (IBAC) 11 years ago to provide a series of standards and best practices that operators can voluntarily assimilate and document. The standard, which includes a safety management system program developed by the International Civil Aviation Safety Organization, has since become internationally accepted.
Nepal's Shree Airlines has ordered five AS350 B3e and three EC130 T2 helicopters from Eurocopter. They will be used for search and rescue, aerial work, disaster relief missions and tourism. With this acquisition, Shree Airlines becomes the largest Ecureuil operator in South Asia with a total of nine aircraft.

Tarrant County, Tex., College is taking over Bell Helicopter's former military programs facility at Fort Worth Alliance Airport. The college plans to use the 161,000-sq.-ft. facility for an expansion of its successful aircraft maintenance programs, which are currently offered at the college's Northwest Campus. The college plans to occupy the facility in June 2014.
