The EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2022 Notice, commonly referred to as the Oshkosh NOTAM, contains many Federal Aviation Administration-approved changes that are important for pilots to be aware of when flying into the world’s largest aviation gathering.
In fact, the document is required reading for pilots bound for the fly-in convention, taking place from July 25-31, 2022 at the Wittman Regional Airport (OSH) in Oshkosh, WI.
The most noteworthy information includes changes to several IFR routings, the decommissioning of the Rockford and Manistee VOR-DMEs (RFD and MBL), the discontinuation of aircraft camping at the Appleton International Airport (ATW), and miscellaneous editorial updates.
The document goes into effect from noon CDT on Thursday, July 21, until 6 a.m. CDT on Monday, Aug. 1, and not only features arrival and departure procedures for aircraft that will fly into OSH, but also for aircraft that will land at nearby airports.
“The most essential information for any pilot flying to Oshkosh involves reading and thoroughly understanding the 2022 AirVenture Notice to ensure safe operations on arrival and departure,” says Sean Elliott, EAA’s vice president of advocacy and safety. “Although the designation may have been changed by the FAA, the document still states the official requirements and expectations for pilots. We also urge all pilots to log appropriate cross-country time prior to their trip to Oshkosh so they have the proficiency and confidence to fly safely.”
Certain procedures remain unchanged from past years, including the ATC-assigned transition points approaching Oshkosh from the west used to ease congestion. These points include Endeavor Bridge, Puckaway Lake, and Green Lake. The points will be announced on the arrival ATIS at times of high traffic flow.
