Sheltair Aviation said Sept. 1 it has closed the sales of the last two of its five New York FBO bases to Modern Aviation.
Family-owned Sheltair closed the sale of FBO operations at Republic Airport and Francis S. Gabreski Airport in East Farmingdale and Westhampton Beach, New York, respectively, to conclude the divestiture to Modern Aviation announced in October 2021.
With all government approvals received, Modern Aviation has formally taken over operations at the two Long Island airports. The company acquired Sheltair’s operations at nearby Long Island MacArthur Airport in Ronkonkoma, New York, in March and at New York JFK International and LaGuardia airports in February.
“Acquiring Sheltair’s Long Island operations is an enormous milestone for us,” said Modern Aviation CEO Mark Carmen. “In particular, we not only recognize the enormous history at Republic Airport but today’s important relationship with the surrounding airport community. We look forward to sustaining the community dialogue and engagement that Sheltair pioneered, creating a model for every FBO across the country.”
