Gama Aviation said it will be the first Fixed-Base Operator (FBO) at Glasgow International Airport (EDI) to offer on-site security screening beginning in September.

The Farnborough, UK-based business aviation group said its screening facility at EDI will benefit charter operators and their clients, who previously had to undergo screening and exit from the commercial terminal for qualifying flights.

“This initiative has always been a top priority of our FBO in Glasgow,” Gama Aviation Head of FBOs Tom Murphy said. “We have never been comfortable that business jet clients departing on charter flights have been handled away from the FBO, in a non-VIP environment.”

In-house security screening will also help charter sales teams, which in the past have indicated that they were limited on the size of aircraft types they could sell in Glasgow, Murphy said. With a smoother flow for passengers through airport screening, charter operators and brokers have an opportunity to sell trips on larger airframes, he added.

“The team and I have been working hard to redevelop our FBO offering in Glasgow; as of September 2021 we increased our capability which enabled us to provide full handling to business aviation customers,” Murphy said. “We are very much looking forward to seeing the results and providing a true VIP handling service, as it’s meant to be. It will now take only a matter of minutes for passengers departing on charter trips to seamlessly board their aircraft.”

In addition to its Glasgow location, Gama Aviation operates FBOs in Sharjah, UAE, and Jersey, the Channel Islands.
