The FIFA World Cup, held every four years and one of the most-watched sporting events in the world, will take place in Doha, Qatar from Nov. 20 to Dec. 18, 2022.
With an estimated attendance of 1.2 million football (soccer) fans traveling to Qatar to attend the matches throughout the tournament, trip support providers strongly advise business jet owners and operators attending to reserve airport slots and accommodations as soon as possible.
“World Cup ticket holders don’t have any time to waste to plan their World Cup experience. There are so many options that include direct operations to Qatar or travel via neighboring Middle Eastern countries such as the UAE,” says James Collas, operations director of trip support solutions provider, UAS International Trip Support. “It’s the first time the Middle East plays host to the World Cup and the demand for permits, slots, ground handling, and other related services is massive,” he added. “UAS has been established in the Middle East since 2000 and has the regional knowledge, experience, and expertise to ensure you have the best chance of obtaining the permissions you need to make your trip possible.”
Particular pressure is expected to be placed upon Hamad International Airport (OTHH) and Doha International Airport (OTBD), with slot availability limited due to the great volume of air traffic.
