Hahn Air, the German scheduled and executive charter airline, is celebrating the 10th anniversary of its charity, the Hahn Air Foundation.
Since its inception in 2012, the foundation has supported 31 projects across four continents with the goal of helping underprivileged people, especially women and children, find a way out of poverty and live healthy and free lives.
“We were grateful about the business success of Hahn Air and wanted to give something back to society,” says Nico Gormsen, Hahn Air’s co-founder, co-owner and general manager of the Hahn Air Foundation. One project he feels proud to have supported for the last decade is “Amigos de San Cristóbal,” which supports day centers for children and renovates houses for those living in extreme poverty in the Mexican city. The program is one of the foundation’s oldest, and one that Gormsen feels particularly close to since his mother is Mexican.
To date, the foundation has invested €3.8 million ($3.81 million) across its many projects with an annual investment of more than €350,000. Currently it has 16 ongoing projects, including “Swimming Doctors,” which provide medical care by boat to thousands of people living in the Irrawaddy Delta in Myanmar, along with “Hope Shelter,” which cares for young mothers in Sierra Leone who have experienced sexual violence and abuse. Generally, the Hahn Air Foundation supports the development of resources including health care facilities, schools, nurseries, day-care facilities and social institutions.
To ensure consistency, Hahn Air has stated all projects are carefully selected and receive long-term sustainable support. This includes times of crises such as the coronavirus pandemic or in cases of local uproar. All donations are allocated to projects while administrative costs, such as costs for travel, marketing and accounting, are entirely covered by the company. The foundation’s website allows transactions to be publicly monitored.
Hans Nolte, Hahn Air’s president and CEO concluded by saying “the 10th anniversary is very special to us as the Hahn Air Foundation is close to our hearts and to the hearts of our employees who collect donations every year as a Christmas initiative. We hope to be able to change many lives for the better in the future with the help of our generous donors, friends and supporters.”
