Embraer has been releasing technical information to help business jet operators use their aircraft to safely transport COVID-19 vaccines, which require low temperatures, as demand for vaccine transportation rises.
Because of the coronavirus pandemic, operators have been considering the use of their Embraer aircraft to deliver vaccines. Low temperatures required by the vaccines is achieved with dry ice. A total of 1,400 Embraer business jets are currently in operation in more than 70 countries.
“Embraer is deeply engaged in the fight against COVID-19, providing technical information to customers in many segments, always with the main goal of supporting and enhancing our customers’ operations,” said Sergio Cunha, Embraer vice president of technical services and product support. “This technical information will help customers to develop their procedures in order to carry a large amount of COVID-19 vaccines.”
Embraer performed tests and simulations to define the characteristics and payload requirements related to the technical specifications of vaccine transportation, with consideration of the differences among its aircraft. Embraer’s documents include guidance for all business jet models, including the Phenom 100, Phenom 100EV, Phenom 300, Phenom 300E, Legacy 450, Legacy 500, Praetor 500, Praetor 600, Legacy 600, Legacy 650, Legacy 650E, Lineage 1000 and Lineage 1000E.
In December, Embraer released technical guidance to help its commercial aircraft customers define the transportation characteristics and payload requirements for transporting vaccines. It also released guidance to apply UV-C lights for cockpit sanitation and disinfectants and coatings for the aircraft interiors.
