Charter Jets, a private jet charter provider, is now offering an option for customers to reserve replacement support coverage on charters booked within 10 days of departure.

The move is intended to allow clients who book closer to their departure dates protection in the event of an Aircraft on Ground (AOG) incident.

The company has partnered with Charter Flight Support (CFS), a company that specializes in aircraft recovery for the charter industry in the event of mechanical issues arising. Under the agreement, CFS’s policy covers up to double the base cost of the original charter flight to find a replacement aircraft.

“We’ve seen an increasing demand for additional charter protection in various forms,” says Justin Collom, chief operations officer of Charter Jets. “Our team is working hard to provide our passengers with more value and protection, so this service is a natural value-added component of our total offerings. We have been working over a year now to bring this charter support to our clients and the response has been overwhelming, with more and more clients opting in on the coverage.”

This new offering comes at a time when private aircraft are experiencing more mechanical incidents, mostly due to the fact that higher demand has led to a greater strain on a globally aging fleet. Simply put, increased flight hours brings both increased maintenance requirements and frequency of unscheduled downtime.

According to Charter Jets, 12% of all charter flights booked are unable to complete their scheduled trips due to this phenomenon. In many cases, this can leave passengers without an aircraft shortly before their scheduled departure where they may be financially responsible for replacement costs.

The high demand in today’s charter market makes finding a comparable replacement, both in type of aircraft and price, a difficult task. According to Charter Jets, clients needing to pay more than 40% more than the original price to find a replacement aircraft is not uncommon, hence why the company expects its new protection program will become popular with customers.
