President-Elect Joe Biden has announced his intent to nominate retired four-star Gen. Lloyd Austin to serve as the 28th U.S. defense secretary.

The House intends to vote on a one-week continuing resolution Dec. 9, which would avert a federal government shutdown.

The House plans to vote on the fiscal 2021 defense policy bill Dec. 8, and the top Democrat and Republican on the House Armed Services Committee are prepared for Congress to override President Donald Trump if he vetoes the measure.
