A shortage of skilled labor is severely affecting Hong Kong aircraft maintenance provider Haeco, and this year will cause a second annual decline in airframe maintenance volume. Although group sales and profits rose in 2012, Haeco was unable to fully exploit strong demand for its services at its Hong Kong base. It sold 1.3% fewer worker-hours last year than it did in 2011, says Chairman Christopher Pratt.
BEIJING — Development of two major derivatives of the DFH-4 satellite bus of Chinese spacecraft builder CAST is running ahead of work on the state manufacturer’s larger DFH-5 product, says a sibling marketing company.
Construction work on a new airport for Beijing is unlikely to begin this year, says the country’s new transport minister. Transport Minister Yang Chuantang, speaking to reporters on the sidelines of China’s annual meeting of parliament, said a lot of preliminary work is needed for the airport at Daxing, in Beijing’s southern suburbs. Yang added that it would be hard to begin full-scale construction this year, suggesting the airport may not be ready until 2019.
