Investigators are focusing on evidence that a burst oxygen cylinder caused the large fuselage rupture that forced the crew of a depressurized Qantas 747-400 to make an emergency landing last week. The airline and the Civil Aviation Safety Authority are now checking the oxygen equipment of all Qantas 747-400s. Two oxygen cylinders were fitted in the forward hold just where the fuselage burst. One of them wasn’t there after the aircraft landed, but fragments of it have reportedly been found in the hold.
Air New Zealand may have to raise its fares for a fifth time this year because of the surge in fuel prices, says CEO Rob Fyfe. The airline may also cut capacity but will not abandon any routes, he adds.
Thailand has grounded One-Two-Go Airlines for a month for a range of serious safety violations, including false claims of experience from its pilots. The civil aviation department says the carrier violated safety regulations, lacked proper management and had shortcomings in its operations and maintenance. Flight schedules didn’t allow pilots enough rest, it adds.
