At least 20 people suffered injuries when a Merpati Nusantara Airlines Boeing 737 overran a runway in heavy rain at Manokawi in Indonesia’s Papua province. The aircraft’s body was split open in the crash, the Associated Press says, quoting local officials. The injuries were mostly bruises with some broken bones. The aircraft was carrying 103 passengers and six crewmembers, according to reports.

The Vietnamese branch of AirAsia will begin flying in August, following the signing of the partnership agreement that brings it into the budget airline chain, setting it up to compete with Vietnam Airlines and Jetstar Pacific. Malaysia’s AirAsia Bhd., whose 30% stake in the company was approved this week over the objections of Vietnam Airlines, says its new affiliate, VietJet Aviation, has tentatively adopted the trade name VietJet AirAsia.
