Singapore-based budget airline Tiger Airways is hiring more pilots, cabin crew and support staff to grow its business out of Singapore Changi Airport. The carrier has 100 pilots and 200 cabin crew and says it will recruit 20 and 60 more, respectively. It will also bring in several new people to oversee its cargo operations, a new but growing area of importance for the airline.

Liquids in cabin baggage are now allowed on flights from Kuala Lumpur to the European Union under an agreement between the EU and Malaysian air transport authorities. Before this, liquids, gels and aerosols, including duty-free liquor and perfumes purchased at Malaysian airports, were confiscated from transit passengers by security authorities at EU airports because of security concerns.

Air passenger and cargo volume in the Philippines grew by 15% and 37%, respectively, in the first quarter of the year, compared with the same three months last year, thanks mainly to low-cost carriers. Total passenger numbers reached 3.89 million, up from 3.4 million a year earlier, on the back of a 15% increase in seat capacity to 4.9 million. This took load factors to 79%, says the country's Civil Aeronautic Board. Total cargo uplifted increased 37% to 39,100 tons from 28,600 tons.
