The pilot of a Henan Airlines Embraer 190 that crashed at Yichun in northern China on Aug. 24 accidentally flew the aircraft into the ground, according to preliminary results of the investigation by national authorities. The aircraft was flying normally when it crashed, the chief of the Civil Aviation Administration of China, Li Jianxiang, said in a closed teleconference with the industry. The 190 scraped trees for 1,000 meters before crashing 1,200 meters from the runway. Li concludes that the pilot was trying to land without seeing the runway lights.
SkyTeam will tighten its grip on the air transport market of Greater China by mid-2011 with the scheduled entry into the alliance of Taiwan's China Airlines. China Airlines’ decision to join SkyTeam, announced Sept. 14, means that the alliance will have three of the six major airlines of Greater China, since China Southern is already a member and China Eastern has also declared its plan to join. Air China belongs to Star and Hong Kong's Cathay Pacific to Oneworld. Hainan Airlines is not a member of any alliance.
China’s Changjiang Leasing is negotiating with Bombardier over a possible order for CSeries airliners, but is reluctant to commit to the order before it can be certain of the program schedule. After the experience of the Airbus A380 and Boeing 787 programs, it is difficult to place great trust in a manufacturer’s promised delivery dates, says Ren Weidong, executive VP of the Hainan Airlines Group lessor.
