Acumen: Economy class revamp needs a first-mover
Seat designer Acumen 10 years ago came up with two “ground-breaking” economy class design projects, the “Cozy” concept with Thompson Aero Seating and “Freedom” with Zodiac Aerospace. With Cozy, the individual seats on each row are staggered by 12 inches giving a zig-zag look, while Freedom is a yin- and yang-style design of forward- and backward-facing seats.

Delta Air Lines has become the first Airbus A320 family operator to take delivery of new larger pivoting overhead bins. The new A321 allows 60% more roll-on carry-on bags to be stored compared to the traditional fixed bin option. The airline is also the first to fly “Space-Flex v2” —an optimized rear cabin configuration that integrates two lavatories and four trolleys outside the revenue area. Combined with Smart-Lav also installed in these new aircraft—the optimized footprint lavatory—this resulting arrangement allows Delta to place 192 seats in the two-class cabin layout without compromising passenger comfort.
