ATW 2013 Eco-Aviation Conference & Awards Gallery

Air Transport World presented its 2013 Eco-Aviation Award winners with their trophies at a dinner in Washington DC Sept. 12.

United Airlines was this year’s top Gold Eco-Airline of the Year award; airberlin received the Silver award; and Qantas Group was Eco-Pioneer. Air Canada and Airbus won the Eco-Partnership award and WheelTug was the Eco-Technology award winner.

The awards dinner immediately followed the ATW Sixth Annual Eco-Aviation Conference, which had the theme “Realizing Sustainability and Efficiency” and focused on overall sustainability, affordability and overcoming political hurdles within the air transport industry, particularly those social, economic and environmental developments that will have a lasting effect on the industry’s future environmental performance.

Keynote speakers included Airlines for America (A4A) VP-environmental affairs Nancy Young; Commercial Aviation Alternative Fuels Initiative (CAAFI) executive director Steve Csonka; and Biotechnology Industry Organization managing director-Industrial & Environmental Section Matt Carr.

Panelist speakers included: Airports Council International-North America environmental affairs director Katherine Preston; Airlines for America (A4A) chief economist John Heimlich; Aerospace Industries Association director of environmental policy Leslie Riegle; United Airlines managing director global environmental affairs and sustainability Jimmy Samartzis; Solena Fuels president and CEO Robert T. Do; ICF international senior associate Erika H.
