Embraer’s family of E2 aircraft has been certified in Canada, paving the way for the first aircraft delivery to Porter Airlines.
The Toronto-based carrier has 50 E195-E2s on order and 50 aircraft options. Previously, Porter has said it plans to take delivery of 30 aircraft over the next 12 months.
Transport Canada has awarded Type Certification to the E2 jets, Embraer said, following similar approvals by regulators in Brazil, the U.S. and Europe over the course of 2018 and 2019.
Embraer said the first delivery to Porter will take place at the manufacturer’s headquarters in São José dos Campos, Brazil in the coming days. It will also be the first E195-E2 to operate in North America.
Porter has announced numerous routes for its new E2s. The airline plans to operate the aircraft from Toronto Pearson International airport to Calgary, Edmonton, Montreal, Ottawa and Vancouver.
In a recent interview with Aviation Daily, Porter CEO Michael Deluce said that given the number of aircraft the airline is taking delivery of over the next year, “you can expect frequent updates on a weekly, bi-weekly basis of new markets that we are launching.”
