Two Embraer E175-E1s wait for delivery to the US to operate for United Airlines’ regional brand United Express. Embraer’s 70- to 90-seat segment has held an 86% market share in the US since 2013, with over 600 E-175 E1s in service.

The assembly infrastructure at Embraer can produce at least 100 jets in one year; however, supply chain issues are affecting the production target. “Regarding [the] supply chain, we still see we are not out of the tunnel yet and 2023 will be impacted,“ Embraer Commercial president and CEO Arjan Meijer told ATW.

Embraer, which recently announced its guidance to deliver 65 to 70 aircraft this year, sees limited improvement in supply chain challenges in 2023.

KLM is the largest operator with more than 60 aircraft in service, followed by LOT Polish Airlines, which operates 44 aircraft.

Another E Jet awaits delivery to US-based LCC Breeze Airways. Concerning competition, Embraer Commercial president and CEO Arjan Meijer said the company “actually lost three competitors. Bombardier, MRJ Mitsubishi and the Russians [Sukhoi] are changing course at the moment as well. But we have two big competitors left, one in the US [Boeing] and one in France [Airbus].”

Brazilian aircraft manufacturer Embraer’s history dates back to 1969, when its first production aircraft, the Bandeirante turboprop, took to the air for its inaugural flight. Today, Embraer produces commercial jets, such as E Jets, but also has a strong position in the executive jet and defense segments as well.

ATW correspondent Kurt Hofmann was invited to visit the Embraer facilities in São José dos Campos as well the head office in São Paulo. Here are some exclusive photographs.
