The airline has released a series of videos entitled ‘how not to...’ to teach passengers how NOT to deal with awkward plane situations such as napping seatmates and the challenges of climbing over fellow passengers for a trip to the restroom.
Chan Tran, Brand Analyst for JetBlue Airways said: “Travel brings together all types of diversity and with it, unexpected moments that can be humorous, heart-warming, and yes, sometimes frustrating. #FlightEtiquette is all about the situational behaviours that can occur between strangers during air travel."
The airline is hoping to spark a wider discussion on the subject, and has created the hashtag #FlightEtiquette in the hope that passengers will take to social media to share their ideas of flight etiquette.
What's Your Biggest #FlightEtiquette Problem?
The campaign is particularly timely after a turbulent year for in-flight travel, following the numerous videos which have emerged on YouTube relating to on-board scuffles between passengers and even between staff, such as the Korean Air flight which was forced to return to the gate at New York’s JFK after a company executive decided to kick the aircraft’s head flight attendant off the plane over the presentation of a pack of nuts.
"We wanted to say, 'We've all been there. We get it, and let's talk about it,'" Lisa Borromeo, JetBlue director of brand management and advertising, said about the clips for #FlightEtiquette. "It's a universal truth of flying."
In 2003, jetBlue created "air-tiquette" cards placed into seatbacks which offered tips for passengers "to be savvy, comfortable, nice and safe while in the air." The cards offered advice on how to be considerate of other passengers, and how to keep the aircraft clean and tidy.
The low-cost carrier was founded in 1998, and mainly serves destinations in the United States, along with flights to some destinations in South America and the Caribbean.
