Each week we examine in detail one of the airlines attending an upcoming Routes event. In this edition we analyse Air New Zealand, which is attending World Routes 2018.
Air New Zealand can trace its roots back to April 1940 when its forerunner airline, Tasman Empire Airways Limited (TEAL), was incorporated.
In October 1953 TEAL became jointly owned by the New Zealand and Australian Governments, and in April 1961 the New Zealand Government assumed full ownership.
In April 1965 TEAL was renamed Air New Zealand and expanded its operations to North America and Asia after taking delivery of its first DC-8 aircraft.
The airline became a full member of the Star Alliance group in 1999. Today it operates a fleet of more than 50 aircraft on routes to 20 countries around the world.
