Air Transport Capacity in South America – A Market Snapshot

With Routes Americas fast approaching we take a closer look at the air transport landscape in South America, a region that has seen significant consolidation over the past few years and has changed notably following the recent merger between two of its heavyweights: LAN Airlines and TAM Airlines.

Looking at schedule data for the past two years shows that seat capacity on flights from South America increased 2.0 per cent in 2013, versus 2012, although actual departures declined 2.1 per cent. In the tables below we highlight the largest airlines and airports serving South America by seat capacity in 2013 and compare these with the previous year.

The data is all supplied by OAG Aviation using its OAG Schedules Analyser tool.
