LONDON—UK-based leisure carrier Jet2 has agreed to purchase 35 new-build Airbus A320neos to grow its fleet, with the option to further-extend the order to 71 aircraft.
Jet2 Executive Chairman Philip Meeson said Oct. 18 in a stock market announcement that the order gives certainty to the carrier’s aircraft supply well into the next decade.
The follow-on order comes in addition to the 36 A321neos ordered by the carrier in 2021. Jet2 said it now has a total of 98 aircraft on firm order. This could eventually rise to 146 aircraft, if options for A320neos and A321neos are exercised.
While historically a Boeing operator, Aviation Week Network’s Fleet Discovery database shows Jet2’s in-service fleet comprises 74 737-800s, seven 737-300s and seven 757-200s, as well as 10 A321-200s and one A320-200. To date the airline has not placed an order for new-generation 737 MAX family aircraft.
The latest tranche of ordered A320neos will be delivered over the three-year period to 2031, Jet2 said. The airline added that it had negotiated “significant discounts” from list prices. Jet2 said it will finance the order through a combination of internal resources and debt.
The A320neos will be configured with 180 seats and Airbus’ Airspace cabin, which feature innovative lighting, new seating products and 60% larger overhead baggage bins.
