Greek carrier Sky Express is set to take delivery of its first pair of Airbus A321neos in 2023, following a year of rapid post-pandemic growth.
Sky Express has almost tripled its annual passenger numbers to 3.5 million since 2019, while its 2022 revenue more than tripled to €267 million ($290 million), driven by international growth.
Now, Sky Express is preparing for further expansion. “With the addition of two Airbus A321neos in 2023, the Sky Express fleet is set to number 23 aircraft,” Sky Express said, detailing its 2022 performance and outlook for the year ahead.
The airline previously focused on domestic services, but in October 2020 agreed to lease six Α320neos so it could launch scheduled international operations. Beyond these six A320neos, over the past two years, Sky Express has also acquired another two A320neos, one A320ceo and six ATR 72-600s.
Total flights in 2022 rose almost 50% to over 49,000, with no flight cancellations during the rapid rebound of summer 2022, which strained many of Sky Express’ rivals. Average revenue per passenger almost doubled and Sky Express quadrupled its market share at Athens. This was the fifth consecutive year where Sky Express was the fastest-growing carrier in Athens.
Athens Airport communication and marketing director Ioanna Papadopoulou said this market-share growth was particularly notable, considering that 2019-2022 was a crisis period for most airlines.
Sky Express serves 34 domestic destinations in Greece and 24 international destinations. The airline has interline partnerships with a number of carriers including Air Transat, Air France-KLM, American Airlines, Condor, Delta Air Lines, easyJet, Emirates and Qatar Airways.
