Etihad has joined Emirates in expanding service to Toronto after Canada and the UAE forged an expanded air transport agreement.

Each country is now allotted 21 flights per week, which is 50% more than what was previously available, the Canadian government said.

Etihad is planning to add an additional weekly flight between Abu Dhabi and Toronto Pearson International airport beginning May 30 which will result in daily service between the two destinations.

The airline said the route between Abu Dhabi and Toronto had been one of its busiest in 2023 “as a result of the rapid recovery and continued growth in travel demand between the UAE and Canada.”

Etihad noted it has an interline agreement with WestJet and a codeshare pact with Air Canada to offer connectivity through Toronto to more than 15 destinations.

Emirates is also bolstering its service to Toronto following the additional flights made available to the UAE. The airline plans to add two additional flights from Dubai to Toronto Pearson International airport on April 20, which will also result in daily flights between the two destinations.

The airline also has a codesharing agreement with Air Canada that debuted in late 2022, flying customers to 46 points across Africa, Asia, the Middle East and North America.
